12th June - St. Antonio’s Night
June 22, 2009
12th June (Popular Saints)
Celebration of St Antonio’s night (as in Lisbon city’s commemorations)
O Fado will recreate the festivity spirit of Lisbon on the 12th June.
Lisbon celebrates the Festas dos Santos Populares (Feast Days of the Popular Saints) in June. Barely a narrow street escapes as paper lanterns, streamers and coloured lights are hung from balconies and railings. There is a big parade on the night of the 12 June where groups from the various neighbourhoods compete with each other dancing and singing in unique costumes according to a theme.
We invite you to join us at O Fado where Portuguese traditional groups will be dancing and singing in a traditional costume accompanied by the Portuguese Guitars and Accordion.
This festive commemoration will take place at the 12th of June from 7pm in a party mood and with grilled sardines as the tradition so commands.
It’s a happy St. Antonio’s day at O Fado
